Decent Homes Met Surveys Ltd and Met Consulting Engineers Ltd work in partnership with Local Authorities and Contractors to ensure the decent homes standard is met. Met Surveys Ltd, one of the largest land and building surveyors in the UK, has created a decent homes division and a bespoke software solution to simplify the collection, processing and dissemination of data for all involved. The solution has been designed to aid the collection and capture of information on site using the latest handheld computer technologies. Tailored software allows the surveyor to pick up and record as much or as little information as required by contractors for each property. This information is then provided to contractors and authorities in a format specified by them. Government Legislation "Quality and Choice: A Decent home for all" Introduced in April 2000 prompted the largest shake up and review the housing industry has seen in over quarter of a century. Met Consulting Engineers Ltd has a close relationship with the Decent Homes team and relies on them for information when working on the same contract. Our Engineers investigate any structural faults identified in the surveyors report, by various means. Most structural problems manifest themselves in the form of undue movement in the structure leading to 'cracking' or 'bulging'. Based upon the form of the movement, a hypothosis of the cause can be made and the form of the investigation tailored to suit the structural fault suspected. When all necessary investigations have taken place the Engineers provide a report to the Contractor/Authority detailing the appropriate remedial measures to ensure the homes meet the required standard.
